Description:
- Power Input:
- USB Micro B - 5VDC
- USB Type C - 5VDC
- 5.5.2.1mm DC Power Jack - 6.5 ~ 16VDC (Recommanded - 12V)
- JUMP: A jumper labeled "JUMP" selects 3.3V or 5V for the power rails. Since the ESP32 uses 3.3V logic, keep it set to 3.3V
- TX/RX, I2C SDA/SCL (D21/D22), power, and ground are available. VCC voltage depends on the JUMP jumper setting.
NOTICE:
- There are several esp32 versions.
- Please refer to the pictures and check check the distance between two rows of pins(25.5mm or 24mm) of ESP32 you have.
Role of the JUMP Jumper
The JUMP jumper on this expansion board selects the voltage supplied to the board’s power rail (the red VCC line).
- If you set the jumper to 3.3V, all VCC (red) pins will receive 3.3V.
- If you set the jumper to 5V, all VCC (red) pins will receive 5V
Why Choose Between 3.3V and 5V?
- The ESP32S development board uses 3.3V logic levels. For this reason, it is safest to keep the jumper set to 3.3V for normal operation
- However, some external sensors or modules connected to the expansion board may require 5V power. In these cases, you can move the jumper to 5V so the VCC rail supplies 5V to those devices
Precautions When Using the Jumper
- The ESP32S itself only supports 3.3V. If you set the jumper to 5V, make sure that 5V does not connect directly to the ESP32S logic input pins, as this can damage the board1
- When set to 3.3V, the VCC line is powered by the ESP32S’s onboard 3.3V regulator. The maximum current available is limited by the regulator’s capacity, typically less than 250mA
•When set to 5V, the VCC line is powered directly from the USB or DC jack, providing enough current for 5V sensors or modules
